ChannelFlip Establishes New Divisions
18th Sep 2014
Thursday 18th September: ChannelFlip, one of Europe’s largest online multi-channel networks (MCN) today announces the creation of two new talent-focused divisions, enhancing the range of services offered by the company.
In a first for any MCN, ChannelFlip have created FlipSide, a brand new full service talent agency and management department, launching with a diverse range of online clients spanning comedy, entertainment and beauty.
FlipSide is focused on expanding the reach of YouTube and online talent to maximise commercial and ancillary opportunities. It will represent a range of online talent, sourcing deals with traditional and online media as well as licensing, sponsorship and merchandising partnerships.
Fleur Brooklin Smith and Mike Cook join ChannelFlip to manage the division, bringing respectively talent representation and licensing experience to the new agency. Fleur Brooklin Smith will use her experience of working with talent in TV production to help the FlipSide talent expand their brand into online and traditional media channels. Having already launched YouTube star Simon’s Cat as a successful consumer brand, Mike Cook will be splitting his time between FlipSide and his role at Simon’s Cat.
Dan Howell, Phil Lester, Emma Pickles and Stuart Ashen are the first four online creators to be represented by FlipSide.
FlipHub is a new branded content agency, specialising in YouTube stars and becomes the second new division to be created. Designed to offer online talent outside of the ChannelFlip Partner Network the opportunity to work with cutting edge brands on innovative campaigns, it provides flexibility and commercial opportunities to talent regardless of their network status.
Claire Tavernier, Interim Managing Director, ChannelFlip said, “ChannelFlip has always been about enabling creativity, particularly online creativity. With these new divisions we are continuing to develop ways to create value for online talent. We refuse to be an MCN with a ‘one size fits all’ approach; we want to give talented individuals a suite of products to find and develop commercial solutions, foster creativity and build strong and engaging brands.”
Founded in 2007, and part of Shine Group since January 2012, ChannelFlip currently manages over 200 YouTube channels including a portfolio of some of the world’s most loved YouTube stars such as Carrie Fletcher, Emma Blackery and KickthePJ, rights holders including Rastamouse and eOne Family, and are responsible for award-winning branded entertainment campaigns for brands such as Dr Pepper, Hasbro and Kellogg’s. To date, channels have generated over 30 million subscribers and up to 400 million video views per month.

About the FlipSide’s talent:
Dan Howell
4m subscribers, 10m views per month. 1.4m Twitter followers
One of the most popular British guys on YouTube. Known for his videos expressing his views on the world on everything from existentialism to an awkward habit of mumbling, Dan tries to make everyone feel better about life by telling them about his. Along with his friend Phil Lester, he hosts the ‘Internet Takeover’ Monday night show on Radio 1 and has recently ventured into the popular world of gaming with their new YouTube channel ‘DanAndPhilGAMES’.
Phil Lester
2m subscribers, 5 m views per month. 1m Twitter followers
Phil Lester AKA ‘AmazingPhil’ invites you into his bedroom (not as weird as it sounds) to share what goes on in his almost worryingly crazy life. Telling stories about his northern childhood, his awkward 90′s teenage years, and even the time he walked past Emma Watson ordering some granola, he might make you realise how ordinary and possibly boring your life really is. Phil’s strangeness combined with Dan Howell’s sarcasm turns out to make a fantastic team when they collaborate together!
Emma Pickles (youtube.com/EuphoricCreation)
390,000 subscribers, 800,000 views per month. 9,100 Twitter followers
19-year-old Emma is a brilliant young talent, showcasing her quirky beauty styles and passion for theatrical and horror make-up styles online. She is currently developing a beauty book with FlipSide, which will take readers through every make-up look they need for a whole year: from a first date to a New Year’s Eve party and of course, Emma ‘s favourite time of the year: Halloween! Emma is also a huge fan of role-play games and has begun to merge this passion with her make-up skills, making her the most beautified gamer on the internet!
Stuart Ashen (youtube.com/ashens)
630,000 subscribers, 4m views per month. 55,000 Twitter followers. A fantastic reviewer, actor and filmmaker, Stuart has a love for the irreverent, and irrelevant side of life. He has ticked off a lot of cool boxes on life’s to-do list: Shot a feature film, published a book, gained celebrity fans (Peter Serafinowicz to name but one) and bought a house by the sea. The next twelve months see him launching his very own Ashens App, taking some traditional acting roles and finally painting his bathroom.
