Chef’s Protege
- Original producer: Shine TV
- Original broadcaster: BBC2
The Chef’s Protege is the next generation of cooking competitions, bringing together three world-renowned Chefs - Tom Kitchin, Theo Randall and Michel Roux Jr. The Chef’s Protege centres on the gripping relationship between apprentice and master, set within the volatile day-to-day reality of the cooking industry.
In the show, all three Chefs return to catering college to search for their own young Proteges. Most of the students are still in their teens so it is up to the Chefs to find ways to teach, inspire and test them without destroying their confidence or ambition. At the end of their week’s search, the Chefs must decide on which students to take through to the final week, where they will choose their Protégé. The series culminates in the three Chefs and their Proteges competing to cook one final meal, judged by the people with the most influence on their own careers – the Chef’s very own Grand Mentors.
This compelling new show uncovers the engaging and emotional drama of the relationship between a Chef at the peak of their career and someone starting out in the culinary world, revealing the skill, creativity and raw passion required to become one of the best Chefs in the world.
